Secure Mobile Systems

Mobility and ubiquitous computing are key technologies of the decade. But protection of mobile systems is not comparable with protection of stationary architectures. The mobility aspect implies a lot of new threats and attacks that have to be covered in security concepts and protocols. We focus on security solution for portable devices and mobile software agents. Our targets are platforms for access to multimedia data and services, as well as secure applications for distributed systems. Another focus of our research is the security of mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs).

Current Projects

  • MANET
    Security in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks – The primary application areas for MANETs are in domains where there is no readily available infrastructure and where networks of various sizes must be configured quickly and dynamically.
  • RITA
    Responsive Intrusion Detection for Tactical Ad-hoc Networks – Methods for detecting intrusion will be further developed, implemented and integrated. In addition threats concerning the protection system itself will be analyzed. Solutions for the detection and prevention of such attacks will be developed, implemented, and evaluated.

    CODEC is a Java package for encoding and decoding ASN.1 data structures which was developed as part of the SeMoA project.

    Goal of the MAP project is working environment that meets the challenges of the future: mobility, security, multimodality and delegation of tasks to software agents.

    MANET Intrusion Detection for Tactical Environments
    Detection of attacks on tactical MANETs (mobile ad hoc networks). The idea of Network Enabled Capabilities (NEC) significantly affects the electronic infrastructures of the armed forces.

    Secure Services for Mobile Citizens
    Development of a multilateral secure plattform for dynamic offering of location-, time- and person dependent services for mobile citizens.
  • NSI
    New Security Infrastructure
    The project NSI has the objective to increase usability and efficiency of interconnected public key infrastructures (PKIs). A special focus is on the requirements of restricted mobile devices.

    Creation of a secure platform for mobile access to multimedia data and services based on mobile agent technology.
